Make me a samurai…

“Daito Samurai” was a commission for my son. He told me that he loved my washi tape art so much that he wanted his very own “Melody Maleitzke.” I asked him, “What do you want?” He replied, “Make me a samurai!” That is exactly what I did.

It took longer than expected due to the layering technique I was creating — remember I’m the pioneer here in this technique. Total time was 10 weeks.

This piece stretched me to push the medium further. It taught me that patience and fortitude are worthy teachers…as the washi tape has a mind of its own.

Finished work is acrylic and washi tape on an 8” x 10”canvas
