Orchids in Bloom

Spend a late winter morning immersed in color, pattern, and calm creativity at The Plant Shop. Our February workshop, Orchids in Bloom with Washi Tape, is a hands on experience led by Bainbridge Island artist Melody Maleitzke.

Using a beautifully curated collection of over 100 rolls of washi tape, you’ll create a 5” × 7” orchid inspired artwork that feels both playful and intentional. Melody will guide you through techniques for layering petals, building depth, and playing with contrast.

No art experience required. All supplies are included. This workshop is designed to be relaxed and welcoming.

Free Washi Tape Art Event

People of all ages are invited to drop-in and participate in creating a large-scale collaborative artwork using Japanese washi tape – a colorful, expressive medium that is accessible, low-barrier, and joyful to work with.

Artist Melody Maleitzke has designed this workshop to be inclusive, beginner-friendly, and welcoming to all ages and skill levels. She will introduce you to washi tape as a fine art material and guide you in creating individual and collective components of the final piece.

Washi Wonder: A Community Tapestry is a community-engaged art project funded by an Arts & Humanities Bainbridge Artist Grant. The final piece will be publicly exhibited during the Bainbridge Art Walk on June 5, 2026.

Washi tape as an art medium offers a versatile, never-ending color palette that allows you to create collage-like artwork that can be two- or three-dimensional. Washi tape art is for everyone. If you can use scissors and/or an X-Acto knife, you’re good to go.

If you enjoy texture, glimmer, or shine then this class is for you! Maybe you’d rather work with muted colors? We’ve got you covered. You’ll have more than 100 washi tapes to choose from.

In this “make-it -and-take-it” class, you’ll create a beautiful, unique washi tape cherry blossom branch. No watering or pruning necessary.

Your artwork will draw inspiration from your imagination and personal style. Create something truly special filled with the magic of washi tape, perfect for your enjoyment or as a thoughtful gift for someone special in your life.

No art experience required. All supplies are included.
