Cherry Blossoms

For the start of this washi tape artwork, I painted an 8” x 10” canvas with acrylic paint. I wanted to give the appearance of the cherry blossom branch suspended in the air amidst a stand of trees.

I did not pencil sketch this artwork, I used the tape itself to “draw” the branches.

Again, I pre-selected my washi tape rolls for my palette. I’m super excited that I found a pink washi tape roll that actually has cherry blossoms printed on it! The tape is perfect for laying the foundation of the cherry blossoms.

One of the challenges of washi tape is they tend to be small in width. I find that I must layer the pieces to get the width of the petals I want (see image 3.)

Another big challenge is that sometimes you run out of the tape before you’re done with your artwork. Hey, it’s the art of letting go…so I let go of my preconceived notions of only using the tape I ran out of. I dig through my supply and find an alternative that adds more dimension to the art. I love how this happens!
